Stress, anxiety and depression are the biggest cause of sickness absence in our society. According to MHFA England Mental ill health is responsible for 91 million days lost a year and this is a cost to UK employers of £34.9 billion each year. We know that people can recover from ill mental health; recovery is possible and likely. Recovery is even more likely the earlier that we get support; there is a lot we can do to prevent ill mental health, prevention is key in building resilience.
It is a simple requirement that organisations put in a platform and resources to support employees with mental health sooner to work together to ensure resilience and interventions that prevent mental health. By doing this organisations will see a drop in sickness, absenteeism, relationship issues and an all-round happier fulfilled workforce. All the MHFA courses are accredited by Mental Health First Aid England.
So with all this in mind why is it that according to Perk Box; ‘Almost half (45%) of UK workers say that their place of work does not have anything in place to help reduce employees’ stress levels and improve their mental wellbeing’ and only 6% of employees offer any form of training on mental health, wellbeing and stress management, resilience training.
